Several NGOs and business owners in Nigeria have reported receiving calls from 02015268799, urging recipients to update their company details via a “new CAC portal.” They’re then followed up by WhatsApp messages from 08141709869, claiming to be CAC officials ready to assist with applying and downloading an app.

One such message reads:

Hello, Good morning.
This is an official from the Corporate Affairs Commission. Our notification department reached out to you. Are you available now so we can assist you to installing the application to enable you update your company information?
CAC has a new portal where you can do your update by yourself online
If you’re available now, our registry department will call and assist you on how to download and activate the application for you.

What the CAC Official Notices Say

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has publicly warned against such calls, emails, and WhatsApp messages requesting installation of unknown apps or disclosure of company details .They emphasize that they never require users to download third-party apps or share confidential info through unsolicited contacts . CAC also issued a public notice cautioning stakeholders about scam calls impersonating its Registrar-General and requesting applications via hashed or cloned phone numbers

Why This Is a Scam

  • Unverified Contacts: The numbers 02015268799 and 08141709869 have no official link to CAC and has been flagged by users on spam-detection platforms like Truecaller as a scam caller..
  • No Official App or Third-Party Portal: CAC only uses its official portal; it does not send unsolicited download links.
  • Trying to Harvest Info: The scammers aim to capture your personal and company information—or infect your device with malware.

What You Should Do

  1. Ignore and block calls and messages from these numbers.
  2. Verify through CAC’s official channels—via their website at www.cac.gov.ng, email (helpdesk@cac.gov.ng), or verified phone line (+234‑708‑062‑9000)
  3. Do not install any unofficial app or share sensitive info.
  4. Report these incidents to the CAC, or to the EFCC’s cybercrime unit.

Note

Calls from 02015268799 followed by messages from 08141709869 are phishing attempts and not legitimate CAC communications. The CAC has made multiple public announcements warning stakeholders not to cooperate with such requests Always verify through official contacts and remain vigilant!
