A message currently circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms claims that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened its “Ad-Hoc Staff Application Portal 2026” and is recruiting 10,000 people to work in the coming elections. The message invites both graduates and non-graduates to apply via a link: https://okripeti.org/Inec-ADhoc-Staff-Recruitment.html and urges users to share it with others. This claim is false and misleading.

Verification
INEC has not announced any ad-hoc staff recruitment through the website okripeti.org or any similar domain. The Commission has officially warned the public about fake and unauthorized recruitment portals falsely claiming affiliation with INEC. According to INEC, the website being circulated is not affiliated with the Commission in any way and is designed to deceive unsuspecting applicants.

Official INEC Recruitment Channels
INEC conducts ad-hoc staff recruitment only through its official platform known as INECPRES. The only authentic links for the 2026 FCT Area Council Election Ad-hoc Staff recruitment are:

  • Web & iOS: https://pres.inecnigeria.org

  • Android (Mobile App): https://presmobile.inecnigeria.org

Any website, link, or form outside these official platforms is unauthorized and should be treated as fraudulent.

Red Flags in the Viral Message
Several warning signs show this is a scam: the use of a random domain name (okripeti.org) with no connection to INEC, vague promises of mass recruitment, pressure to “apply and share,” and the absence of any reference on INEC’s official website or verified social media pages. Legitimate INEC recruitment exercises are publicly announced and widely reported by credible media outlets.

Risk to the Public
Fake recruitment portals often collect personal information such as names, phone numbers, email addresses, and sometimes bank details. This data can be used for identity theft, further scams, or financial fraud. In some cases, victims are later asked to pay “processing” or “verification” fees.

The Facts

  • INEC is not recruiting ad-hoc staff through okripeti.org.

  • The so-called “INEC Ad-Hoc Staff Recruitment Portal 2026” link is fake and unauthorized.

  • INEC recruitment is done only via the official INECPRES platforms listed above.

Verdict: ❌ Fake / Scam

Members of the public are strongly advised to ignore and avoid the fake link, not to share it, and to rely solely on INEC’s official channels for verified recruitment information. Anyone who has already submitted details on the fake site should be cautious and monitor for potential scam attempts.
